Wrestlers’ real names revealed

You know The Rock is really Dwayne Johnson, but do you know The Ultimate Warrior’s real name? What about Triple H? Click through to find out.

Stone Cold Steve Austin

Before he became known as Stone Cold, this wrestler had a bit of an identity crisis. Born Steven James Anderson, he changed his name to Steve Williams, then to Stunning Steve Austin, and first burst onto the WWF scene as The Ringmaster.

CM Punk

Touted as the longest-reigning WWE champion of the modern era, CM Punk’s tattooed, tough guy image doesn’t quite match his very proper real name: Phillip Jack Brooks.

The Undertaker

Mark William Calaway, AKA The Undertaker.

Hulk Hogan

Born Terry Gene Bolea, Hulk Hogan first started professional wrestling as Sterling Golden, and debuted as a WWF wrestler simply as Hulk. Now, his entire family has taken Hogan as a stage surname.

Dusty Rhodes

Virgil Riley Runnels, Jr. better known as “The American Dream” Dusty Rhodes, died in 2015.

Andre the Giant

André René Roussimoff (1946-1993), best known as André the Giant, was the first inductee into the WWF Hall of Fame.

The Rock

Dwayne Johnson has parlayed his wrestling stint as The Rock into a successful film career… using his original name.

King Kong Bundy

Chris Pallies just doesn’t have the same ring as King Kong Bundy! Other professional names include Chris Canyon, Big Daddy Bundy, Boom Boom Bundy, and Man Mountain Cannon, Jr. Say what?

Ric Flair

Ric Flair is pretty close — the wrestler is actually Richard Morgan Fliehr, Sr.

The Canadian wrestler’s real name is Adam Joseph Copeland.

Rey Mysterio

Oscár Gutiérrez was trained by his uncle, Mexico’s Rey Mysterio Sr.

Gorgeous George

Gorgeous George

George Raymond Wagner (March 24, 1915 – December 26, 1963) gained fame as Gorgeous George during the First Golden Age of Professional Wrestling in the 1940s-1950s. Adopting an effeminate persona (complete with long, flowing locks), George kicked off what would become standard in pro wrestling: elaborate costumes and flamboyant characters.

Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels? Try Michael Shawn Hickenbottom. Isn’t that more fun to say?

Glenn Thomas Jacobs is better known by his ring name, Kane.

The Ultimate Warrior

The Ultimate Warrior was born James Brian Hellwig, but legally changed his name to “Warrior” in 1993. He died in 2014.

Triple H

Triple H

Paul Michael Levesque kicks butt as Triple H, an abbreviation of his former ring name, Hunter Hearst Helmsley.

Rowdy Roddy Piper

Though Roderick George Toombs is Canadian, he was billed as coming from Glasgow, Scotland and was known for his kilt and bagpipe entrance music. He died in 2015.

The face paint loving wrestler is actually named Steve Borden.
