Tom Coughlin says that he’s ‘not necessarily done with coaching’ in his farewell press conference as Giants coach.

Of course Tom Coughlin began his press conference five minutes early.

The outgoing Giants coach began his 10:30 a.m. press conference at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday — aka Coughlin Time.

And his time might not be up.

MYERS: GIANTS SHOULD FEEL BLUE OVER COUGHLIN’S DEPARTURE

When asked if he would remain involved in the game, Coughlin said, “I will, somehow, someway. I will. My wife will not want me to be home for longer than 48 hours.”

When pressed further about coaching, and if he was done with it, Coughlin said, “Not necessarily. I’m not necessarily done with coaching.”

John Mara said that he “would not characterize (Coughlin’s exit) as a firing,” and added that the Giants expressed an interest in keeping him in the building as a special advisor, a proposition, Mara said, they would revisit in the coming days.

LUPICA: COUGHLIN’S GONE, BUT GIANTS NEED PERSONNEL UPGRADE

While Mara praised Coughlin as a “tremendous talent evaluator,” he noted that the team has “missed the boat” in the last few drafts and that it “remains to be seen” if there will be changes in the personnel department, led by GM Jerry Reese.

As for replacing Coughlin, Mara said that the search will be “extensive” but he has no timetable for hiring a replacement. Mara did confirm that both coordinators, Ben McAdoo on offense and Steve Spagnuolo on defense, would interview for the job.

Coughlin emphasized the pride he felt as the 16th coach of the Giants, saying that it was a “dream” to coach Big Blue for 12 years.

“I’m from a little town in Waterloo, New York, up the way here, watching the Giants and the Browns, because that’s really all there was, on black and white TV,” he said.

The coach ran down who’s who list of behind-the-scenes Giants coaches and staffers who “help all of us prepare our football team,” after recognizing ownership — the Mara and Tisch families — and Reese and director of communications Pat Hanlon, who Coughlin credited with saving his job after the 2006 season.

Coughlin became emotional when talking about his wife, Judy, who he called “rock-solid” and the quarterback of his life. He also singled out his four kids and 11 (soon to be 12) grandkids.

JUSTIN TUCK, OTHER GIANTS SHOW RESPECT FOR COUGHLIN

Plenty of current and former Giants were also in attendance, including Eli Manning, Victor Cruz, Rich Seubert, Shaun O’Hara, Zak DeOssi, Mark Herzlich and Rashad Jennings.

“So what’s now, what’s next for this guy Coughlin? Well, I don’t know exactly,” Coughlin said, saying that he will focus primarily on the Jay Fund and help families that have children with cancer.

Coughlin spoke most passionately about his players and their character. While he said that head coaches are hired to get the “technical aspects, the Xs and Os, right,” he said that it “is our duty to equip these young men with the vitures that will last a lifetime.”

He added: “You’d like (our players) to be your next door neighbor. That is important to me.”

Coughlin began his press conference by saying that he and his wife Judy don’t say “goodbye” but instead “see you next time,” and he closed it in similar fashion.

“And with all that, I will se you all next time,” he said.
